People 'united in disgust' at dissident republican threat

SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood has commended the people of Derry for standing up in protest against dissident republican threats to the city's community safety wardens.

Speaking at a rally outside Derry City Council's headquarters this lunchtime, Mr Eastwood said: "The people of Derry standing side by side in protest against violence and intimidation serves to further isolate the tiny minority whose actions have no place in our society.  "The people of this city and across the North are united in disgust by this latest threat against hard working public servants.   "Community safety wardens provide a very valuable service in our community and it is vital that they can go about their duties free from fear and intimidation. "There is no such thing as a legitimate target in our society. It is important that we all continue to make a united stand against all acts of violence by so-called dissident republican groups.”
