EU funding for Derry rail upgrade
SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood has welcomed a €14m EU funding windfall which will help deliver the Derry-Coleraine rail upgrade.
DRD Minister Danny Kennedy has confirmed that almost €14.4 will be granted to the long awaited project under the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility.
Mr Eastwood said: “Upgrading the Derry-Coleraine rail line is a key transport infrastructure project for the North West which will drive economic growth in the region.
“This funding award shows that projects vital to growing the North West’s economy can gain huge benefit from engagement with Europe. It is now important that efforts in Europe are intensified by the minister to secure further funding for key transport schemes such as the A6 and A5 road upgrades.”
