300 new jobs for Derry

SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood has welcomed today’s announcement that 289 jobs are to be created in Derry by US business process outsourcing company OneSource Virtual.

The Texas-based firm is to create the new posts in a human resources outsourcing centre in the city by 2017.

“OneSource is a leading US cloud-based business process outsourcing and the firm’s arrival in Derry highlights the great potential of our city’s growing digital economy. Much hard work has gone into the promotion of Derry as a digital hub, not least by the city’s chamber of commerce and Digital Derry. We are now seeing the fruits of those efforts with the delivery of well paid posts in the digital sector.

“This major inward investment shows the increasing levels of confidence that foreign investors have in our city. Derry has had many bad news days when it comes to job losses but the last week has certainly been promising with the announcement that 100 new digital jobs by US firm Metaverse Mod Squad and now 289 new posts by OneSource.

“These investments have the potential to help attract further job creation from inward investors and it is important that the momentum is built upon by Invest NI.”

Mr Eastwood added: “We are all well aware that Derry is a great place to live and work and that is testament to its people and rich culture. It is important that this message is delivered internationally.”
