Colum is fully behind the campaign to expand the University of Ulster's Magee campus.
Colum belives the project will be a economic driver for Derry and the entire North West region.
He is a leading campaigner for the implementation of the One Plan's provision to double the number of full-time undergraduate places at Magee to 9,400 by 2020.
On an annual basis the campus is forced to decline many thousands of applications from students, a large of number of which are from within Northern Ireland, because of a deficit in undergraduate places.
According to the plan, the university expansion in Derry has the potential to generate £1bn in the local economy by 2040. That ambition must be realised to offset economic underinvstment and regional disparity. We've been waiting since 1965 for a meaningfrul committ from Stormont to Magee and to Derry. John Hume led 25,000 Derry people from every political persuasions to Stormont and they were ignored. We will not be ignored again
